Even here in the all-convention-all-the-time bubble of the Big Tent, some news penetrates.

And I apologize for the profanity in the headline -- but there's really no other way to say it.

Hurricane Gustav. A Cat 2 storm right now...but there's a whole lot of open water between where it is now, and New Orleans. And looking at the projected path, there's almost no way NOLA isn't going to catch at least some of it.

What's been done in the past two years to harden the city against another Cat 5? Not much. Certainly not enough.

Let's at least hope they've worked on their evacuation plans since Katrina.
